Southern Hops Brewing Co. will host “The Woodys Benefit for Emma” from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 6.
The concert will be a reunion of the popular Florence-area musical group, The Woodys — an eight-piece band featuring recently retired Francis Marion University professor Phillip Gardner on lead vocals. The concert will benefit Gardner’s granddaughter, Emma Hemphill, 10, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in October of last year.
“Our band sees this as an opportunity to celebrate Emma’s full recovery with our family, our community and the family of Woodys’ fans,” said Gardner. “We want to do something positive, something healing.”
The Woodys Benefit for Emma will also include appearances by popular Florence acts, Todd Norris and Speakeasy.
