This cemetery was established in 1865 as a burial place for the Union soldiers that died while being held at the Florence Stockade. The first woman to be buried in a National Cemetery, Florena Budwin, is interred at the Florence National Cemetery. The cemetery contains the remains of veterans from all major US conflicts.
